Can we find a balance between the old and new?

No one can deny that technology is part of the here and now. It is so intertwined in our lives now. It is everywhere and it is constantly changing. One really has no choice but to accept that. The problem people are having is whether or not they choose to embrace this.
Technology needs to be incorporated into education. It is how teachers will be able to relate to the students. Technology cannot replace everything, however. It should be used as a tool and a resource. It prepares students for things they will experience in the real world. It is a powerful tool and with it, comes responsibility. Students should be taught to use it correctly like the students in Asia. We need to teach young people to create a balance.
Young people do not realize how consumed we can get with technology because it has been a critical part of our lives. It can be a necessary evil. Some people lose the lines of reality because they get blurred. We need to embrace and celebrate this instant access to information but we also need to remember the simple things. For example, actually picking up the phone to talk to someone rather than text or meeting someone in person rather than have a virtual meeting. We need to keep things personal and not forget that.

About Me

Hi!

My name is Melinda. I am a graduate student at SNHU. I graduated from SNHU with a B.A. in History and minors in Business and Arts and Humanities. I did not think I would be teaching.
I tried out a management job with a retail company and hated it. I realized  hat this was not what I wanted to be doing. I did not enjoy it and needed to find something that I would look forward to doing and that is when I considered teaching. I made the decision to go back to school for my M.Ed. in Secondary Social Studies Education. I started the program this fall and should be student teaching by January of 2012. I'm really excited for this next year and a half to fly. I just can't wait to feel like I'm finally doing what I'm supposed to be doing.
When I'm not doing school work, I work at the part time job I had during high school and undergrad. And when I'm not at work, you will find me with friends. I enjoy spending time going to concerts, going camping, and traveling. I adopted a yellow lab, pit, and terrier mix in January. He's ten months old and I try to spend my free time with training and spending time with him as well.
